Ant

Few most common types of ants which can be found in Sri Lankan households include Black Ant (Lasius niger), Carpenter Ant (Camponotus) and Pharaoh’s Ant (Monomorium pharaonis) etc. Ants undergo complete metamorphosis, passing through a sequence of four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Ants are social insects. Colonies live inside nests that can be built in trees, underground, or even inside special ant plants. Ant colonies are highly organized, usually ruled by a single queen, and each ant has specific jobs to do. Ants cause problems primarily when they forage in buildings for food or water and when they construct nests in buildings and gardens. Some types cause very painful bites and injuries which facilitate favorable conditions for secondary infestations in the skin.
